The 5 Secrets of Success

Product Usage Manual

INGREDIENT BREAKDOWN

GLYCINE (6,000 MG)

While it’s the simplest and smallest amino acid, its benefits are anything but simple or minor. Here are a few:

  • Reduces pain and muscle soreness and helps combat chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is a long-lasting inflammatory state that can persist for a long time and damage tissues and organs. Research shows glycine works two ways: it inhibits production of pro-inflammatory cytokines—such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β—while increasing levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. [1]
  • A precursor of glutathione, one of the body’s most powerful antioxidants. One study states: “Thus, combined supplementation with NAC [N-acetyl-cysteine, another Amino Age ingredient] and glycine may promote glutathione production.” [2]
  • Supports gut health. Multiple studies indicate that glycine deficiency is associated with oxidative damage and impaired gut barrier function, which can be addressed with glycine supplementation. [3]
  • Supports the body’s collagen production. Collagen is the body’s most abundant protein and forms the foundation of skin, bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and other connective tissues. Because glycine is a key constituent of collagen, maintaining adequate glycine intake is important to support collagen production. [4]
  • May improve liver function. In studies on male Wistar rats predisposed to alcohol-induced liver damage, glycine supplementation alleviated alcohol-related liver injury. Another study showed increased fatty-acid oxidation and increased glutathione synthesis in the livers of mice with non-alcoholic liver disease. These findings suggest glycine protects the liver against long-term damage. [5]

TAURINE (4,000 MG)

Let’s hear from researchers about this amino acid—present in the greatest amount in the human body—which makes clear why taurine is a key component of Amino Age… “Based on its widespread presence, numerous cytoprotective properties, and roles in cellular development, nutrition, and survival, taurine is undoubtedly one of the most important substances in the body.” [6] Other researchers simply call it a “miracle molecule.” [7] Because older adults have on average 80% less taurine than young healthy adults, and since one study identifies taurine deficiency as “a driver of aging” [8], taurine supplementation isn’t just a good idea—it’s essential!

  • Effective protection against type 2 diabetes. Animal studies suggest taurine supplementation can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. [9,10] In addition, studies in diabetic rats show taurine supports heart function by enhancing glucose transport into cardiac muscle cells, thereby lowering blood sugar. [11,12]
  • Outstanding nutrient for heart health. Taurine supplementation improves circulation, reduces blood pressure, lessens thickening of arterial walls, and enhances the beneficial effects of nitric oxide. [13,14,15]
  • Exceptional “eye-health” nutrient. Taurine is present at very high concentrations in the retina, but its levels drop significantly with age. Robust evidence shows taurine is indispensable for maintaining optimal retinal function, so supplementation helps preserve it. [16]
  • Highly beneficial for liver health. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can progress to cirrhosis and liver failure. Studies indicate taurine protects liver cells from damage caused by free radicals and toxins, reducing the severity of oxidative-stress-induced liver injury. [17,18,19]

Fun fact: One study found that the lifespan of older mice fed taurine daily was extended by up to 25% compared with those receiving placebo. [8] Similar results were observed in taurine-fed rhesus monkeys. [20]

Note: Beyond general health effects, taurine also enhances athletic performance, so Amino Age can be fully combined with our other taurine-containing products, such as Fully Charged and Cherry Bomb HEED.

N-ACETYL-L-CYSTEINE / NAC (600 MG)

N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is the bioactive form of the amino acid cysteine and is readily absorbed from the intestine. Key benefits include:

  • Raises the body’s glutathione levels. NAC can do this on its own. [21] However, together with glycine—another Amino Age ingredient—this process becomes even more efficient. Since glutathione is arguably the body’s most powerful antioxidant with numerous benefits, maintaining adequate levels is crucial.
  • Strongly supports the body’s detoxification processes. NAC may help prevent side effects from exposure to environmental toxins. According to one study: “The use of NAC as a heavy-metal chelator is a promising area of research that warrants further clinical investigation.” [22]
  • Outstanding liver-protective effects. Beyond supporting detoxification, NAC is remarkably hepatoprotective—it is commonly used in medical settings to treat acetaminophen (paracetamol) overdose-induced liver toxicity. One study states NAC is “the primary treatment modality for acetaminophen poisoning. Approved by the FDA for treating hepatotoxic doses, it’s nearly 100% effective if given within 8 hours.” [23]
  • Protects the lungs and helps relieve symptoms of respiratory disease. Excess mucus in the airways becomes sticky, hard to clear, and makes breathing difficult, worsening conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and other lung diseases. NAC has been shown to reduce mucus viscosity and volume, helping to clear the airways. [24,25,26]
  • May help stabilize blood sugar. Animal studies suggest NAC can reduce inflammation in fat cells, improving insulin sensitivity and helping stabilize blood glucose. [27]

Note: The glutathione-supporting ingredients in Amino Age—glycine and NAC—pair exceptionally well with LSA Caps.

L-CARNOSINE (500 MG)

L-carnosine, often simply called carnosine, is a dipeptide composed of two amino acids—beta-alanine and L-histidine. It is found in high amounts in the human brain, muscle tissue, and digestive tract, and is present in all vertebrates. [28] It offers numerous human-health benefits—one paper even refers to it as “a molecule with multiple mechanisms of action.” [29]

  • L-carnosine’s strongest advantage is its anti-glycation property. Glycation is a chemical process in which sugar molecules bind to proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, leading to the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). Dr. Laurie Barclay writes: “Although glycation is a natural part of aging, it is by no means desirable.” Dr. Bayne French states that AGEs are “considered toxic; in fact, they’re referred to as glycotoxins,” and succinctly adds: “The more AGEs you have, the faster you age.”

In the paper “Glycation damage: A potential central player in major pathophysiological disorders and aging,” the authors state: “Biological products induced by glycation (AGEs) are primarily associated with aging, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes and its complications, atherosclerosis, renal failure, immunological changes, retinopathy, skin aging, osteoporosis, and the progression of certain cancers.”

That’s a long list of threats to human health! Fortunately, more than 20 years of research show that L-carnosine is an effective anti-glycation nutrient. For example, a 2005 study states: “Carnosine acts as an anti-glycation agent by inhibiting the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs).” [30]

  • L-carnosine also has powerful antioxidant properties. One study notes: “Carnosine exhibits numerous beneficial antioxidant effects. For example, it scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and aldehydes that are generated during peroxidation of fatty-acid cell membranes under oxidative stress.” [31]
  • Helps maintain telomere length. Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes. In cell-culture studies, carnosine reduced telomere shortening. Notably, longer telomeres are associated with increased lifespan. [32]
